About the Technovation Challenge Competition

The Technovation Challenge program includes a global competition element. It is not necessary to submit to the competition to use the curriculum, but most of our participants do.

This page collects information about the rules, requirements, and structure of the competition.

Competition Timeline

The Technovation Challenge Season officially starts on October 12, 2026.
Students and Mentors may register between October 12, 2026 and March 11, 2027.
Student teams work on their projects from when they sign up until the submission deadline.
All teams must submit by May 5, 2027 5pm PDT to be eligible to complete.
After teams submit, judging begins. Judging typically runs from April or May through June. There are 3 rounds of judging:
1. Quarterfinals (Round 1): All teams who submit are quarterfinalists. Judges select which teams will move on to the Semifinal round of judging
  - Semifinalists are announced via email.
  - Quarterfinal (Round 1) Judging Window: May 11 to June 7th, 2027
    Takes place at Regional Pitch Events and online
2. Semifinals (Round 2): Judges select teams who are Regional Honorees, and teams who advance to the Finals. (Regional Honorees do not advance any further.)
  - CO-ED TRACK: For this 2027 inaugural season of the co-ed track, the number of finalist teams and regional representation for those slots will be determined after submissions close in May 2027. Please stay tuned.
  - GIRLS TRACK: Judges will select 15 Finalist teams from around the world.
  - Finalists and Regional Honorees are announced at the Global Celebration Event, a virtual event open to all participants and volunteers.
  - Semifinal (Round 2) Judging Window: June 15 to June 28, 2027
    Takes place entirely online
3. Finals:
  - ALL-GIRL TRACK: The final round of judging will be held during World Summit. At World Summit, 1 Grand Prize Winner per division will be announced.
  - CO-ED TRACK: For the inaugural co-ed cohort in the 2027 season, any potential honors beyond finalist team prizes will be determined in June or July 2027.

About the Technovation Challenge Competition

The Competition takes place at the end of the Technovation Challenge season.

Teams work on their projects throughout the season and, if they are eligible to compete and choose to do so, submit them to a global competition for the opportunity to win awards and educational scholarships.

Submissions are then judged in Quarterfinal, Semifinal, and Final rounds, with top-scoring teams advancing to subsequent rounds. Quarterfinals may be judged at in-person Regional Pitch Events or online. Semifinals are judged entirely online.

The Final round of the competition is held at World Summit (girl-track only), where Finalist teams pitch their projects to a panel of judges.

While the Technovation Challenge competition is not open to participants above the age of 18, the curriculum is free and available to use by learners of all ages and genders.

All teams who submit to the competition are required to agree to the Honor Code when they submit. This agreement is made on the my.technovation.org platform, but the full text of the Honor Code can be found below for review.

2027 Technovation Honor Code

Technovation's mission is to help you solve real problems with technology, and cultivate the power to choose your own purpose and future. To maintain a fair, safe, fun, and friendly competition for all involved, it is important that all team members and mentors agree to support one another in realizing this mission.

You promise that your team's 2027 Technovation Challenge submission is created by the students on your 2027 Technovation team. If your team remixes other materials or updates a past project, that is acceptable IF your team significantly improves or modifies the original materials. You or your team members agree to cite any sources you use, such as tutorials, code libraries, code templates, datasets, and more, in the Written components section of your submission.

Students and mentors promise that while they may receive assistance from mentors in learning new skills and finding resources, the mentors do not create, design, develop, or write any aspect of the team's submission deliverables.

If any team member used AI tools (such as chatbots, code assistants, image generators, or writing assistants) in any part of your project (including code, design assets, business plan content, pitch materials, etc.), your team agrees to disclose this in the Written components section, including the tools used, what parts of the project they helped with, and how the team built on or verified its output. As with mentor support, AI can help students learn and accelerate their work, but it should not replace the students' own thinking, decisions, and creative or technical contributions to the submission.
