What’s new for 2025?

2025 SEASON UPDATES

There are key changes coming to the Technovation Girls program for 2025!

These changes will open up more opportunities for teams to learn and grow in the program.

PROGRAM CHANGES

Single submission track

2024 and prior there was an Artificial Intelligence (AI) track and Mobile App track that teams could submit to. Since, the introduction of the AI track there has been an increase in submissions that integrate AI, for this reason a dedicated track is no longer needed.

Web app submissions

We heard your feedback and are happy to announce that for 2025 teams can submit web apps! If you are new to web apps, we have new curriculum to help guide you and your team.

BEGINNER DIVISION CHANGES

Scratch projects welcome!

Beginner teams can submit Scratch projects. They can still submit mobile or web apps if they choose.

What is Scratch?

Scratch is a high-level, block-based visual programming language and website made as an educational tool for children ages 8 to 16.

It is a great introductory tool for programming with it’s user friendly interface and use of sprites (programmable object or character); learners can visualize what they are programming more easily.

Technovation has added Scratch to allow for an easier on-ramp to for younger participants in the Beginner division.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE CHANGES

AI will remain part of the program

Even though the AI track has been removed, teams are highly encouraged to include AI in their apps (AI can be easily used in Scratch projects, so Beginner teams won’t miss out).

The AI lessons in the curriculum will remain available. There is even added content on including AI in web apps using Python and using generative AI during the program.

If a team uses AI in their project, they should mention it in their technical video.

STUDENT CURRICULUM CHANGES

New format

The student curriculum has moved to a format that operate more as a website, with better navigation options including a search bar and filtering options. We will also have editable slides (TBA) for Ambassadors and Mentors to use that contain the same content as the website

Curriculums by division

Each division will have their own curriculum that is directly accessible from the Technovation website.

Expanded translations

The Beginner curriculum and SDG units will now be translated! We are excited to continue expanding on the translations available to participants.

Mentor Tips

In partnership with AmeriCorps, there will be Mentor Tips throughout the student curriculum. They will look like the included tip below, click it to learn more about what to expect in each tip.

Best practices: outline how mentors can create a positive learning environment or suggestions on how to mitigate/approach common challenges.

Guiding Questions to ask students: equip mentors with language to progress conversations toward the goal of the lesson.

Mentor tips are provided by support from AmeriCorps.
