Technovation Curriculum incorporates the United Nations General Assembly’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

CURRICULUM SCOPE

Our online curriculum is designed to equip students with cutting-edge skills through project-based learning. Here’s an overview of the learning journey:

What Students Do & Learn

Investigate Problems in the Community

Brainstorm Solutions that Leverage Technology

Design and Build an App that Helps Chosen Problems

Develop an Entrepreneurial Plan

Create Pitch & Technical Videos to Present Their Ideas

⏰ Flexible Timeline

The curriculum can be adapted to fit within various timelines. We recommend that students are given 40-60 hours of time to use the curriculum and build their projects.

Lessons Include

The Technovation curriculum includes engaging videos that simplify complex ideas into easy-to-understand lessons. These videos feature expert instructors, and Technovation alumnae!

Check out these videos from the Senior Curriculum created by Technovation Alumnae to help students with Ideation:

Students stay actively engaged through a lot of activities, including quizzes, coding exercises and research, all of which enhance their learning.

Check out this quiz from the Junior Curriculum about recognizing artificial intelligence in everyday technology:

Students strengthen their learning and build practical skills through hands-on activities in each lesson. While not required, these worksheets help guide project development and can be printed or completed in Google Docs—just make a copy to customize them for your teams!

Sustainable Development Goals

Technovation uses the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals to help girls explore real-world problems and design impactful solutions for their communities.

With 10 SDG-specific lesson tracks (and growing) and curated technical videos from alumnae apps, students are equipped to think critically and build tech for impact—one global issue at a time.

What's New in 2026

⚖️ Enhanced Focus on Ethics

In collaboration with Responsible AI UK (RAIUK), students will explore ethical app development through the lens of the European Union’s Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) Framework, presented in an engaging and accessible way. Ethical considerations will be integrated throughout the curriculum, putting ethics front and center across all divisions.

📈New Business Canvas

Senior Division teams will now use a 1-page Business Canvas in place of the full business plan. This updated format focuses on clarity and impact, covering key topics like value proposition, target market, and finances, along with professional feedback. Participants will also be expected to include key business planning details, like financials, in their final pitch.

🤖 Updated Support for Generative AI

Students now have the option to use AI tools in their development process. We’ve updated the rubric to reflect this, so projects are judged fairly whether teams code independently or with some AI assistance.

HOW TO USE THE CURRICULUM

Navigating the Curriculum

The curriculum is designed to facilitate teams’ self-paced learning

  • Teams should work through the curriculum sequentially, but may skip around to focus on lessons that are most relevant to their project
  • Students can search and filter by lesson topics to help them find what they need

Using the Curriculum in Meetings and Classes

Structuring Your Sessions

You can structure sessions in one of two ways, depending on your team’s timeline and goals:

  1. Full-length curriculum – ideal for teams with more time who want to go deeper into each topic.
  2. Core Curriculum. – a condensed version of the curriculum containing the basic information needed to submit a project if you are short on time.

During meetings, focus on the most relevant lessons and project-building activities. Students can complete some parts of the curriculum outside of sessions. Encourage them to work on their project between meetings as well.

Running sessions with multiple teams

Divide session time between:

  • Whole group activities (skill workshops, presentations)
  • Team breakout time (project work, planning)

Alternate between whole-group instruction and teamwork time. Start together, split into teams, then regroup to share progress.

Available Resources

  • Session slides to guide facilitators through meetings
  • Pre-built Agendas – structured weekly plans with meeting activities and student tasks
  • Curriculum Timeline Guide — A sample 20-session plan that outlines each lesson with suggested timing and links to key activities. It’s designed to be flexible and can be customized to fit however you choose to run your program. (click the image below to view and make a copy)
