Choosing a career path is daunting. Teenagers have to make so many big decisions that will shape the rest of their lives. I loved the creativity of film production and planned to work in that field, but my parents, both IT professionals, insisted I give a Computer Science class a try. I took their advice and was immediately intrigued by the artistry of software programming. In high school, I participated in Technovation, a mobile-app-building competition for high school girls. That program showed me the many different ways coding can be used as a tool to effect change, inspire fresh ideas and impact various industries. Hearing the amazing women who provided mentorship during Technovation discuss their passion for their work inspired me to become a creator of impactful software.
