Safety: Parents

Parents & Guardians

Your child’s safety is very important to us! Together, Technovation and the parents/guardians of our participants can help create a safe and supportive environment for students to learn and grow.

How does Technovation support a safe environment?

  • Data Privacy: You control your child's information. We require signed parental consent before collecting personal data from minors under 16.
  • Vetted Mentors and Coaches: Staff and volunteers complete child safety training annually and background checks every 3 years before mentoring. (Independent partner organizations follow their local legal requirements.)
  • Media Control: You decide if we can share your child's photo, name, or project work. You can opt out at any time.
  • Monitored Messaging: We are introducing secure on-platform chat so mentor-student communication stays transparent and recorded.

How can parents and guardians support a safe online environment?

Need guidance on how to help keep your child safe online? The articles and training below can help.

To ensure a smooth and pleasant learning journey for you and your child, follow our Code of Conduct, including the following guidelines when interacting with our staff, other parents, and volunteers during your time with Technovation.

  • Adopt a zero-tolerance policy around harassment or bullying. This includes parents’ treatment of participants, other parents/guardians, Program Leaders, and Technovation staff and volunteers, as well as participants' treatment of each other, volunteers including mentors, coaches, and judges, and parents/guardians.
  • Maintain what is, in the judgment of Technovation, a courteous tone in all forms of communication, both written and verbal, with all stakeholders, including Technovation staff.
  • Parents are expected to be professional and respectful in all interactions with volunteers, students, other parents, and Technovation staff.
  • Any conflict or disagreements between parents, volunteers, and/or Technovation staff should be handled with patience, humility, honesty, and curiosity to understand one another.

Failure to comply with the Code of Conduct may result in warnings, restrictions on participation, or removal from the program. Technovation reserves the right to determine appropriate consequences based on the severity and context of any violation. In serious cases, this may include prohibition from future participation.
