12 Teams Advance to Technovation World Pitch August 6-10 in San Jose, Calif.

Girls from 12 teams were given the happy news last Tuesday that their team’s submission advanced to the finals and that they will be flown to Silicon Valley for Technovation’s World Pitch event, a week of networking, field trips, workshops, and the chance to win between $5,000 – $15,000 in scholarships. Technovation offers girls around the world the opportunity to learn the skills they need to emerge as tech entrepreneurs and leaders.

“I imagine a world where young women can pursue any career without fear of being oppressed or looked down upon,” Eesha, Team FemStem, California

World Pitch, August 6-10 in San Jose, California, is the final event following more than seven months of hard work, innovation, and problem solving by more than 19,000 girls in 115 countries. While only 12 teams advance to the finals, the passion, creativity, and grit of girls participating around the world to change their local communities makes them all winners.

“It is inspiring and incredibly humbling seeing the hard work and determination of girls around the world working to solve big challenges in their communities with smart solutions,” said Tara Chklovski, CEO & Founder, Iridescent. “World Pitch is really an opportunity to not only celebrate the accomplishments of the nearly 100 girls advancing to the finals, it is a chance to celebrate the 20,000 that are making technology solutions for social good.”

Finalist teams offered a variety of creative solutions addressing societal problems in their communities including the environment, elderly care and compassion, animal adoption, learning disabilities, equality, drug addition, and more. Their submissions represent local problems in countries and regions around the world including Egypt, State of Palestine, India, Spain, China, Uzbekistan, United States, and more.

At World Pitch Summit, finalists get the chance to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges, network with fellow changemakers, and visit area organizations to see their advances in transformative technologies including artificial intelligence, robotics, and cryptocurrency. Their week concludes with the Technovation Global Innovation Celebration, on August 9, at the California Theatre in San Jose. The event is open to the public and will include a Tech Expo featuring tech innovators throughout the region.

Technovation 2018 and World Pitch are made possible by the tenacity and innovation of girls around the world, their mentors, regional & student ambassadors, judges, and alliance sponsors Google, Salesforce, Adobe, and Uber.
